My business uses Wordpress to attach links to our company website. Late one night our Wordpress was messed up after trying to add a plugin. We lost all our connections. A google search lead us to Fixrunner. It looked to good to be true $49 and fix fast? The issue we had was trusting and unknown with our user name and password. The chat to set up was great. With in two hours our site was back running.

Here’s the way a classic Bait and Switch works. My real life experience.

You experience some minor problems with your WordPress site. You run a quick google search and find several websites offering assistance. You stop at one site let’s call it “Fixrunner” and they claim they will fix your website for a onetime fee of $49.00. (I'll explain why the 30 minutes deal is bogus below) So that seems like a fair price you think, you fill out the form, submit your ticket and you believe your website problems are over.

You then get an email back from this website “Sure we can fix your website, but we are going to charge you $100. Look we know you are desperate and need your site fixed so ignore the price on our website of $49 that is just to get you to request our services.” So now they are figuring that you are desperate to get your website fixed and they prey on your fear and many people rather than ask why you are not honoring the price on your website just give in and agree to the price because they are busy, and they need to get their site fixed. You have to wonder over the years how many hundreds of people have been conned into doing this?

So, wait a minute the company says in their pitiful defense didn’t you see the 30-minute deal where the $49 only applies if it takes us 30 minutes or less to fix. Is there a meter for this 30 minute? Who keeps the clock on this time, do you have a way to monitor it? Of course, you don’t. The tech can log into your site, take 5 minutes to fix the problem and stay logged in and go take a lunch break and come back after an hour and charge you for an hour who would know.

Putting this 30 minute nonsense in there allows them to drag their feet and take as long as they want rather they moving quickly and efficiently to fix the problem. This arbitrary time period gives them leeway to do whatever they want with that time.

So, this company says “Hey it’s not bait and switch because we give you the quote up front and you pay after the job is done.” But wait a minute you advertised one price and then tried to charge me another much higher price regardless of when I pay. They prey on your desperation to get your website fixed so that excuse for what they quote you carries no water. Again, this is the perfect example of a bait and switch and this needs to stop.

What if one tech is more experienced and can fix a problem in 5 minutes and one of the new techs takes two hours? This 30 minute is unverifiable and just an excuse to hit you up with the bait and switch described above, pure nonsense, untrack able and purely arbitrary. If you don’t trust your technicians, then this is a very good policy because it allows them to have no pressure to fix a problem fast.

A legitimate company would just put that they will fix your word press issues for a flat fee, let’s say $49.00 and get rid of the nonsense 30-minute excuse to hike the price. No excuses, no what ifs and ways to increase their price at a whim. If they have professional technicians, they realize that probably 90% of the issues can probably be fixed in 15 to 20 minutes. Yes, some will take an hour or two or more, but it equals out in the end to average probably less then 30 minutes per fix. (This is how Buffet restaurants make money, most people don’t eat that much, and a few eat a lot but it all works out fine in the end with the averages)

If you don’t have actual qualified techs, then this won’t work for the company as obviously you have to post this 30-minute disclaimer because you are afraid your techs aren’t qualified enough to fix your problem in a timely manner. Would you want this type of Tech working on your website if that is the case? I think not.

As far as offering to help after the fact, if you took your car to the shop and they told you they would fix it for $49 and you said sure let’s get it fixed and then they said well now it’s going to be $100 and made up some pitiful excuse about it might take more time then they thought etc, you just want to leave and not work with a company like that. Why would I let someone who just tried to rip me off work on my website they could totally destroy it in 5 minutes or plant a bug, who knows but I don’t know anybody that would say, sure now that you tried to scam me, come on and I’ll let you fix the problem. Sorry that story doesn’t work folks.

They had their chance to do the right thing and be honest and ethical up front at the beginning and they failed. Coming back later to say “well we offered to help you after we tried to con you” doesn’t work, sorry not how things work in the real world.

All I’m doing with this review is telling you what happened to me, so buyer beware. You can take it any way you want; I’m just recounting the situation as it happened and nothing I’ve said or pointed out here is disputable so there you go, make up your own mind but do so carefully because your desperation is what companies rely on to take you to the cleaners.

I created a website a few years ago using WordPress as a favor for a friend who was just starting his own business. I had been a software engineer and programmer before retiring and knew a little HTML and CSS, but had never done website development so I knew just enough to be dangerous. I made manual backups of the site source whenever I made changes, but somehow missed the need to do parallel database backups. I didn't look at the site for a few months until I got a warning message from my web hosting provider. My paid for theme subscription had expired, a number of plugins were out of date and they had suspended the site for exceeding allowable number of PHP executions. While trying to update the theme I managed to crash the site completely. My hosting provider could not restore it without a current database. I got in touch with Fixrunner who also found malware. They were able to completely restore my site under their one time fix offer with an extra small and very reasonable charge for the malware removal, and also made some excellent suggestions on how the website could be improved. They did a great job when I was beginning to think that the site was beyond repair. I will not hesitate to use them again and recommend them highly.

Are you having issues with your website? Seriously, don't hesitate to contact fixrunner. They replied to my initial request within minutes. They fixed my critical error within 10 minutes, even though I had spent hours trying to figure it out myself. I have a website that is hosted by a large company. WordPress went awry on this personal, historical site and didn't display the website correctly. I don't know WordPress nor have anyone on staff that knows WordPress. My hosting company attempted to help me (valiantly but unsuccesfully) by backing up my website to various earlier versions. These folks know their stuff. I'd been fumbling around for hours trying to figure out an issue and they pointed me in the correct direction right away and offered to help if further assistance was needed. This time is wasn't but I know where I'll go next time and I know there will be a next time. It's a computer thing.
