Went to Ikea Thurrock today, decided to get something to eat BIG mistake, there was not a long queue but we had to wait 25 minites to be served, one server working and one till, i counted 10 members of staff behind the counter and instead of clearing the queues they opened up the other serving side and those at the back of the queue were served before those waiting, the server did not understand the order, and missed items, could not be bothered to go araound again. I get throught market place and one till was open having to waiting another 25 minutes to be served again loads of staff hanging around doing nothing. WILL NOT be going back to the Thurrock branch.....dreadful service, dreadful store.

Just bewildered. Having purchased a kitchen with the guidance that the missing items would be back in stock within 2 weeks maximum...I am now 7 weeks and no stock. I have called several times, nothing that can be done, no escalation and my fault apparently. No way to complain and terrible customer service. Just mindblown! Terrible way of treating a customer and also felt it was all to secure the sale, forcing the customer to deal with it after.

Absolutely ridiculous, awful services I attended an IKEA showroom ordered over £2000 worth of bedroom furniture selected a date and time for delivery paid my delivery charge received confirmation the day before for my date and time of delivery as previously discussed took the whole day off work waiting for my delivery to find out it was delayed by five days because it was still awaiting picking in the factory even though they had already had six days to sort this order absolutely ridiculous. Avoid this company at all costs customer services a complete waste of space.

Bought some green velvet L shaped sofas from ikea. Such a shame as they are beautiful and comfortable but they mark so easily. Not a good fabric and stains when you wipe it with water.

Saw a kitchen i liked and went to the specific kitchen place in Preston for a quote (it's now a kitchen & wardrobe only Ikea). Several months later, when we were ready we decided to go ahead. Went over and sat for 2 hours while the lady designed a kitchen that she had already had the details for for ages (could have done this before we arrived as we just sat there... not being spoken to much at all). We set up the finance for 50% but when we wanted to pay over the phone for the other 50% up front we were told that we needed to come into the store as we couldn't do it over the phone (over an hours drive). My husband drove over after a long days work to be told her would "have to come back tomorrow" as the person who could take the payment wasn't here - great - no apology or anything and no call to let us know not to bother coming. This was just the beginining and we should have known at this point at would be a complete shambles but i really liked the kitchen. We eventually managed to order it, a few things were out of stock and the kitchen was being discontinued but the lady reassured us that it would be fine and that worst case scenario they could use ex display pieces - but there shouldn't be any need for that. We booked the day off work (2 of us) to receive the order and booked our kitchen fitter for the following day. We were given a time slot that it would arrive before 11am. 11:15am and no kitchen arrived. There is no way of calling the shop or contacting the person you're dealing with so you can either email the specific person (if they are not in for 2 weeks then good luck!) or you can ring the general customer service number. We emailed and i went on hold to customer service for 45 minutes waiting to have my call answered. When someone answered (a lady) she wasn't confident, kept correcting herself etc. By now the kitchen was well over an hour late and we'd recieved an email back stating that the order hadn't gone out "leave it with me" - Leave it with me??? no apology and we were just left waiting having taken a day off work. We had to cancel the kitchen fitter at that point but we still had to pay him for the short notice. Meanwhile, the lady on the phone said "i'm really sorry but it looks like the kitchen hasn't gone out for delivery." Of course i replied with "why no call to let us know? we've taken the day off work, we have to pay the fitter - etc." The phone then went dead... she'd hung up!! I couldn't believe it... i was fuming! I then felt that i had no choice having heard nothing back by email, to call again. This time it took over an hour to get through. The lady was slightly more helpful. She told us that our delivery date had been moved on a week. I explained that this was no good as we couldn't take more time off work. We arranged another day when one of us was off anyway. My husband and I chatted about how we were not confident as the reason for the hold up seemed to be that 3 things were out of stock so the whole order was held back. After all the rearrurance that this wouldn't happen we were concerned - especially as it was doors and drawer fronts. I had little confidence that the whole order would be present and correct when it arrived (if it arrived) and if the fitter began to fit it they wouldn't take it back and we could be sat with doors and drawer fronts missing. We made the decision to cancel. Well.... this was another complete farce. Tried to cancel online. As the order was broken down into 3 separate orders i could cancel one online - the smallest one. Back onto customer services. Another hour waiting. The lady assured me that she had cancelled the orders. Fast forward 7 days; Ikea still have around £4000 of our money, they havent provided a single thing in return and they take another £140 from the bank!! Email to the shop; nothing, she said to contact Ikea Finance (can't remember the name off the top of my head). They said that the account was still showing in debt so they couldn't refund!!! In debt!! How the heck is that event possible when we gave them £4000 up front?? Back onto customer services waiting another hour to get through. Then Corey to the resuce (he is the only person in the whole of our experience who has been of any use at all) - he put everything through and we were refunded our £4000 within 5 days as he promised. 2 weeks later we got our £140 back.
This experience has been the worst experience i've ever had with a company. We are still out of pocket for the fitter (and the annual leave) which they refuse to refund. Lesson learned - read trust pilot in future!!
To add - The lady at Ikea told us that a laminate worktop would be fine with a belfast style sink but we've since found out the it would have lasted 2 minutes. When we went else where we were also informed that there was no need for all the "filler pieces" that the lady at Ikea added and the new kitchen design then had space for more storage etc.

Bought roasting tins, used them, however a discoloration of the product which fails removal, can pose risk to health. Returned the items, and albeit the evidence obvious, IKEA opted to inform that is how stainless steel is. The staff (frontline supervisor David) was rude, had no duty of care to maintain dignity and respect in verbal interactions, whilst he reiterated 'his position of power'. My items were in date of the receipt, and had I not used the items the issue would not have been identified. I requested a full refund on the basis of the quality and significant change in the items, but this was flatly refused giving me vouchers to impose upon me a store purchase. The items require replacement, and it is draconian and unfair to have an expectation for me to purchase alternatives when there was a genuine issue with the items. I am significantly dissatisfied with the customer service and product quality.

The store is huge and it's impossible to find your way out. When you finally make it to the checkout, there's always something wrong with the register-computer.
Also it is impossible to find anyone who can help you find the department you need.

I purchased a PAX wardrobe from IKEA for almost £900, plus almost £250 for TaskRabbit assembly. The wardrobe arrived with a missing rail and damaged parts. The Tasker sent by IKEA did not assemble it properly, left screws, bolts and nails missing, and left the large 236cm glass door loose, unsafe, and unable to close properly and out of alignment.
IKEA arranged for another Tasker and asked me to send photos so they could calculate a partial refund or compensation. I sent the photos but have never had a reply. I have sent several emails, called customer service around 5-6 times , each time kept waiting on hold for about an hour, with no resolution and refused the right to escalate the matter or speak with a manager .
Task Rabit arranged for a further two Taskers to attend but each one has cancelled, the most recent cancelling just an hour before the appointment today. TaskRabbit has also failed to deal with the issue.
When I spoke to a representative from Ikea’s Peterborough call centre, she initially offered to refund the full installation cost and give me a £100 gift voucher for the damages/inconvenience . I asked if I could have it back on my card instead of a voucher, as I do not wish to make further purchases at this time. Instead of amending the offer, she withdrew both offers completely and put the phone down on me.
I have paid for a complete product and installation but have been left with a damaged, unsafe incomplete wardrobe I cannot use.
Ikea have no care or interest in their customer’s once they have your money. I will not purchase from Ikea again.

Sorry we don't accept calls
Called up to ask to speak to someone about kitchens....This company told me yesterday that the shops don't accept calls...."sorry its not a service we provide" was the phrase used.
Unfortunately we don't use companies that won't accept phone calls. If they won't accept sales calls we therefore cannot trust them to accept a call when we need support.
We have now gone for 3 kitchens from Howdens with a 4th soon.
******
Update
Not sure what you mean....?
I called IKEA Reading and was told they don't accept calls.
Thats the reason why we have gone to a proper kitchen company for our 3 kitchens. Howdens do accept calls prior to sales and also for support after sales.

It's been one week since the ikea builders put up my kitchen. They were unable to complete the job and some parts didn't even fit due to wrong project done by ikea consultant. One week later they have not yet replied my complaint and every time I call they say I have to wait for someone to get back to me. Basically no intention to fix the wrong project and now I have to take the kitchen down and order a new one somewhere else.

After coming to Denmark my first shopping place was IKEA. I was really pleased after watching that remarkable place and I tried to get a job. But, my qualifications doesn’t meet with it. So, my first attempt was unsuccessful. Though I didn’t lose hope, I increased my qualification by doing forklift driving license B. Now I have already applied for a position in warehouse of IKEA at Dybolsbro, Copenhagen. Now I hope the hiring team will consider me as their new employee.
Waiting impatiently for the answer from hiring team and also I hope my dream for working with a prestigious company like IKEA become true.
Unfinished kitchen for 6 months!!!!!!!!!
IKEA kitchen: my experience is from November 2024 until now as they have still not acknowledged my complaint. I had a half finished kitchen from 10th of Feb until 24th of June. They sell kitchens without stock and knowing that there is stock issues and don’t care if you don’t have a finished kitchen. I don’t mean the final touches, I mean a non functional kitchen. The only reason it ever got finished is because I chased it all up my self and in the end just left some bits unfinished because I had had enough. I approached to complain several times due to several issues which have been ignored apart from one saying I had received compensation, which I HAD not and money was a refund for works paid for and not needed. I am still waiting for someone to get back to me.
******* I received a call from ikea within an hour of posting this (unrelated due to the post only just 11.15am getting accepted)
Ikea outcome is sorry not sorry and offered me a £50 voucher. In addition to a £50 voucher they offered due to a balls up with the original kitchen order (which they offered freely when I called to see what was happening with my delivery only. Not an actual complaint.). They have closed the case and I have refused the voucher. I will now be going through the ombudsman.

I purchased from IKEA Italy and requested a refund to my original payment method via their online return system. Despite this, I was issued a gift card instead — something I neither requested nor can use, as I have already completed furnishing two apartments.
I contacted customer service, explained the situation, and referenced my rights under the EU Consumer Rights Directive, which clearly states that refunds must be made via the original payment method unless otherwise agreed. I received a standard reply stating that nothing could be done — and since then, I’ve received no response, despite follow-ups.
This is deeply disappointing from a company like IKEA, especially when the issue stems from their own system failing to respect my original refund choice. I’m now forced to escalate the matter through EU consumer channels (ECC-Net).
IKEA should do better in respecting consumer rights — and resolving these types of issues without silence.

Beware before buying kitchen lights - I have IKEA built in kitchen lights that are lit with a remote control. Now the remote control is broken and they tell me I have to change the whole light system as the remote is not one they have in stock anylonger! That's outrageous and environmentally totally wrong! The lights are working perfectly, but I cannot turn them off...
I want to see IKEA include a built-in light switch on all lights with remote controls, to provide a way to keep using them under circumstances like this.
I had a similar situation with my perfectly working microwave oven. I happened to break the knob inside the door, that happenes to be the knob that tells the microwave oven the door is closed. They no longer provide this as a spare part, thus telling me I have to buy a whole new microwave oven...
In general I am happy with my other Ikea products, and shop here often. But these two points I feel are something that needs attention.

Visited the store in College Park, MD on Saturday June 21, 2025. We needed to get a connecting bracket for shelves. Website showed 46 in stock. There were none to be found in the store. Purchased (2) Enhet cabinets. When we opened the boxes at home we found that both units had damaged pieces. Called customer service and they offered to ship out replacement parts. Called a week later and the store hadn't pulled the ticket yet. I was then offered a full replacement Enhet unit to be shipped to my house so I could pull out the replacement pieces from there. When the customer service rep checked they were out of stock. She then said she would refund me for one of the units. Refund never came. Called back and they said that I would not be getting a refund. Note-We live an hour away from the store and after being promised the replacement, the units were now partially assembled and we were not going to pack them up and return to the store. My largest aggravation is the wasted time with customer service, the lack of communication and the broken promises. Will not be returning to Ikea any time soon.

It's now over 2 months since I discovered they had delivered a broken basin. After multiple calls and a reference they still haven't sent a replacement. Apparently I could get one by cancelling this order and doing a click and collect but as I don't drive and would have trouble getting a basin home on the bus that is not an option.
Note:
IKEA did you not read the part about ringing you several times and also having a reference no?

I bought a brand new kitchen from IKEA around £25,000, and I stupidly listened to their in-house kitchen specialists who said to use their recommended fitters to have it installed, as this would provide the 5-year guarantee for the products.
Their installer was rude, inept, and delayed our house move by nearly 3 months due to having to wait for their schedule to be free. Their level of plastering and electrical work was extremely shoddy, leaving cracks on most walls, and the tape on the ceiling was still visible due to the minimal amount of plaster applied.
Since then the extractor hob has stopped working and the manufacturer has been to repair it twice, neither times successfully and then advised us to contact IKEA again, who has advised us to contact the manufacturer. Wait times to call the customer service lines are generally 1 hour, the staff are not helpful, and no one will ever call you back.

I had the worst experience ordering from IKEA. I scheduled my delivery for 4th July, but they attempted delivery on 30th June without my consent—when I wasn’t even home.
When I called to sort it out, I was told the order would be refunded. It’s been over two weeks now and still no refund or proper update.
To make things worse, IKEA’s customer support is shockingly rude. Every call has been a nightmare—agents speaking over me, being dismissive, loud, and completely unhelpful. I simply asked to reschedule the delivery for 10th July, but instead, I was met with aggression, harassment, and threats to cancel my order.
Absolutely unacceptable. IKEA, do you not value your customers’ time or basic respect?
Avoid at all costs if you value your sanity. IKEA used to be a trusted name—now it’s just a massive disappointment.

Today I went to the IKEA store in my city.
After I finished shopping, I went to the customer support desk and asked for their help with a missing item in my previously delivered order.
They said "please call customer support" even though I was standing right there under the "customer support" sign. Ironic!
This shows very poor training and even lack of common sense.
If you don't know how to handle a customer request, you should ask a more senior colleague for help on the spot.
If the online customer support can solve my problem, then certainly the in-person customer support should be able to do too.
