Do not recommend

I don't usually do this but I have had a really bad experience with this company and highly recommend others to not use it.

I had a dripping tap so decided to use Task-Her to try it out for what I thought was a simple job. The plumber who came out was very sweet but couldn't fix the issue as she could not locate the right parts. However, she was able to partially fix the issue with a temporary part she already had.

She said she would come back another time to resolve which I thought was fine. In the meantime, I was charged £119 for her to come out even though she had not fixed the job. This is quite already expensive for the job at hand, however, I reluctantly paid, thinking this was the total cost for the job (including her coming back).

However, when I logged back onto the website to schedule her return, I was then asked to pay another £119 for her to finish the job. I challenged this, saying I was not willing to pay £238 to fix a dripping tap (that is extortionate!). I never received a response so decided to leave it - already feeling annoyed that I had lost £119 for an issue that was not fixed and I paid £9 for her parking.

Fast forward a few weeks and I got another plumber round (who was much more reasonable) to fix several issues. When he tended to the tap, it turned out the part the Task-Her plumber had used to partially fix the issue had damaged my tap even further and I had to pay to get everything replaced.

I rightly complained to Task-Her stating that I paid £119 for someone to effectively come to my flat and make the issue much worse costing me more in the long term. I asked for a partial refund, recognising that the original plumber still took time out of her day to be there. I think a partial refund is more than reasonable considering I ultimately paid the cost for a full repair, and only received a partial fix which then caused more damage in the long term!

However, Task-Her has refused to provide any refund, which is outrageous, and will not take any responsibility for the issue. They have also refused to acknowledge that is unacceptable to charge people £119 per visit(!) as opposed to charging per job. This alone makes the service extortionate and not worth using.

I really like the concept but the structure does not work, its really expensive and the customer service needs improving!

Hi Louise,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We have reviewed our communications with you and wanted to clarify a few points.

Your plumber originally attended on October 9th to assess and repair the tap. At the visit it was noted that further parts were needed and she would need to return with them at a later date. Whilst there she installed a temporary fix so that the tap functioned correctly until she could return. She made clear to you that it was only ever a temporary measure.

Following the visit she sourced the part and created a new booking for her return visit to install it 3-days after the initial appointment. You decided it was too expensive to continue with the work so chose to cancel that follow up visit. You were aware that the fix made initially was temporary and as such we wouldn’t take any liability for your decision not to pay for a proper fix.

Like most trades companies we charge by the hour and our rates are in line with our competitors. The initial visit was £95+VAT plus £5 for the cost of the temporary part. The follow up visit would have been a further £95+VAT plus the cost of any further parts/materials needed. We make our pricing as transparent as possible so customers are aware of the costs ahead of their work being done, rather than having a nasty surprise afterwards.

We received no message or email from you saying you thought the costs were ‘extortionate’. You emailed the evening of November 27th, 7-weeks after the plumbers original visit. We replied the following day, outlining our complaints process and with a promise to follow up within 48-hours, which we did.

We’re pleased you found the plumber to be ‘very sweet’. We would also like to clarify she is extremely experienced with extensive plumbing qualifications, 20+ years of experience, including at firms such as British Gas, and is also a qualified gas engineer.

Didn’t send a plumber, sent con artists who ruined my sink and tub then lied about it.

Had a horrible experience. Love the concept of TaskHer, but I requested a plumber to snake a blocked drain. A man and woman (isn’t this a company promoting women???) came in and against my wishes used noxious chemicals that produced horrible fumes so I had to vacate my flat. These chemicals caused permanent burn stains in my sink and bathtub. I also found out later they out the chemical bottle on my counter which left a mark there as well. They also ruined my kettle with the acid. The remediation was horrible: corporate continues to deny which chemicals they used despite me seeing the chemicals myself and claimed I never mentioned the burns on the sink, which I did. They offered to replace my sink but only if they sent one of their plumbers: as if I’d ever have anyone associated with this company back in my flat. On top of everything, they didn’t fix the blockage and I had to pay another plumber to snake my drain, the service I requested in the first place.

Dear Kelsey,

Having tried hard to resolve this with you we’re disappointed to see this review. Given the numbers of points raised we will address them individually.

1. We sent a trained, qualified and experienced engineer to deal with the blockage and we have their qualifications on file, as we do for all tradeswomen registered on TaskHer. Stating we did not send a plumber and sent a con artist is simply not true.

2. Around 5% of our tradeswomen work with a male colleague, in this case it was the tradeswoman’s husband (also a qualified plumber). Our tradeswomen are briefed that if attending a property with a male that the customer is made aware and given the opportunity for the tradeswoman only to enter or to rebook another tradeswoman. Your plumber called you in advance of the booking and informed you of the situation and you were happy for her husband to attend with her.

3. You informed them that the drain was likely blocked with grout, owing to work you recently had carried out. They therefore decided to use a chemical to dissolve the grout. The chemical is rated as safe to use in all common domestic pipes.

4. Only one type of chemical was used. We have already sent you the manufacturer’s product sheet on this. The plumber discussed another one with you that you could buy and use yourself (without a licence) if you wanted, however this was not used by them.

5. The chemical was poured carefully into the bath only, where the blockage was, and would cause no damage to the bath itself. This is the first time you have mentioned any damage caused to the bath (or the kitchen surface) and no photos or previous complaints have been provided to us.

6. Your kettle was used, with your permission, solely to pour hot water down the drain. The photo you sent appeared to show a significant build up of limescale, however as a gesture of goodwill we offered to pay for a new one.

7. We were unable to ascertain if the stains on your sink were caused by our engineers, however we offered to send a different engineer to assess the damage and provide a replacement sink if needed. You opted not to take us up on this offer.

8. Your complaint was handled empathetically and efficiently by our team. You initially emailed at 00:16 and one of the founding team had replied within 30-minutes outlining the course of action we would undertake to uncover what had happened and how we would remedy it. Over the following 4-days we communicated with you regularly and spoke at length with the engineer, who disagreed with your version of events. In order to bring the matter to a swift conclusion we agreed to your request to waive the cost of the job and refund the cost of a new kettle.

We have reviewed all of our communication with you regarding the work and are satisfied that we did our best to resolve this amicably and fairly.

Highly recommended.

Not only did they find an engineer for our boiler even though the specific job wasn't listed on things they cover, the engineer also found out we were under warrantee so likely saved us thousands in replacing a large portion of our boiler. Highly recommended.
