Trying to close my Wise account but it…

Trying to close my Wise account but it is blocking me. My wife's Wise account was hacked and emptied of funds. Wise are blaming her and saying all 2 factor authority were done through Apple Pay, but both of us are Android users. Make sense of that. Don't give Wise your bank business is my opinion.

While we won't be able to comment in detail on another user's account nor their case, then we can clarify that if the money was debited via Apple Pay transactions, it's possible the Wise card details were compromised, rather than the account itself (As we don't use Apple Pay for login, only AppleID, which wouldn't be applicable for Android users). Generally card compromises tend to happen due to purchases made in online stores that don't have the necessary data security, or even by encountering card skimmers with physical terminals and ATMs. Although it shouldn't affect the login info, unless it was entered alongside card details with a 3rd party service (Some online phishing schemes involve impersonating login pages, for example).

In cases where only the card was compromised, blocking and replacing the card should help. We recommend that she check any communication from our end on how best to proceed with the situation, if the situation is more complicated.

As for closing the account manually, this can be done using these steps: https://wi.se/closemywiseaccount. Just keep in mind you'd need to withdraw any remaining money and ensure there aren't any pending info requests first.

Robust and reliable service

In the past 3 years I've really enjoyed Wise to use while traveling to many countries. It's super fast and always reliable, and I like knowing I'm getting amongst the best fees in the industry. They've saved me many times from greater inconveniences.

DISAPPOINTING…

I tried to send money to someone in Brazil from UK without success, when I put in the details of the recipient it kept saying no results found even though she has a Wise account and I wrote the details correctly.
Four hours of my life wasted.

We understand that this can be frustrating. For general info, this can happen if they haven't enabled "discoverability" in their privacy settings (e.g. for their registered phone number or email). If it's their account details that you're adding manually, that usually helps find the recipient and initiate the transfer.

Everything about Wise makes my banking…

Everything about Wise makes my banking life easier. The app is intuitive, the services represent good value compared to my high street bank. The freedom to pay in the currency of the country you are traveling in represents good value in terms of charges compared to others.

The servicegood when you work out how to do it

The service, once figured out, is excellent but it’s hard to work out how to do the transactions or move money as you wish. I also find the multiple pin numbers and texts really really hard to work out while travelling. There seems no way to work out for example how to use the wise card online to book accomodation… it seems to be possible but i canned it as so many pins and texts and requests.

Thanks for sharing your feedback. We’re glad you find the service excellent once it’s set up, but we’re sorry the security steps felt overwhelming while traveling. Those pins and texts are there to keep your money safe, but we understand they can be a hassle.

You can use your Wise card for online purchases, though some sites may require an extra security step called 3D Secure (3DS). When this happens, just approve the payment via your Wise app or a code sent to you to complete the transaction.
